Possible Action Required: Critical Vulnerability for Computers Running Google Chrome

Summary 

  • A serious security vulnerability has been identified in Google Chrome web browsers.
  • All operating systems are vulnerable.
  • An immediate update is required. For the general health of Yale's network and information systems, it is important that all affected systems, including home computers, are updated to the most recent version of Google Chrome as soon as possible.
  • ITS Managed Workstations will be updated automatically starting Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Due to a serious zero-day security vulnerability in Google Chrome that could allow attackers to take control of users' computers, Yale ITS requires that Chrome web browsers are updated to the latest version as soon as possible.
 

Please take action in order to help keep your computer and data safe from viruses and other malicious attacks. The information below will help you with this required update.

Yale-ITS Managed Workstations

All other computers 

(Not managed by ITS) 

Starting Wednesday, October 28, Yale ITS will automatically update Chrome web browsers to the most recent version. Updates will be distributed automatically. No action is required on your part. Faculty, staff, and students not using an ITS Managed Workstation are advised to update to version 86.0.4240.111 or higher as soon as possible.
