Beware of Juice-Jacking

Have you ever plugged into a public charging station when your cell phone battery was low? They’re easy to spot in places like airport departure gates or malls. But think again before you do. USB charging stations can give cybercriminals an opportunity to steal your data. Hear our discussion about juice-jacking on episode 4 of the Bee Cyber Fit podcast. You can also see an NBC news story that illustrated the potential hazards. Learn more and know the signs to avoid this trap!

Cybercriminals target big and small brands

Do you feel more secure when you buy an item from a major retailer? Cybercriminals think we do! And they often target familiar brands we trust. Consider the following two recent cases.

Bad actors targeted senior citizens in an elaborate Walmart gift card scam. One victim was kept on the phone for 11 hours and convinced to buy $35,000 worth of gift cards. Read the full story from CNBC.

Another victim received a phony text message claiming an issue with processing their Netflix account payment. They followed the provided link and logged in but luckily became suspicius before providing payment details. ABC's Denver 7 team has the full story.

Updates to the Central Authentication Service (CAS) in December

Take note of upcoming changes to CAS! On December 8, Yale ITS will add a new authorization component for SAML Shibboleth integrations.

The new CAS component allows for configuring access based on the user's status. In other words,  access can be granted or denied based on the existence of an active record in one of the authoritative sources (e.g., Banner, Workday, and Sponsored Identity).

Watch the recording from the Lunch and Learn information session for more details.
