Lock or Unlock a NetID

Why is my NetID locked?

Your NetID may be locked for several reasons:

Incorrect password

  • If you have three or more unsuccessful login attempts occur within 10 minutes, your NetID will lock.
  • After 10 minutes, your NetID will unlock.
  • If you recently changed your password, any device using your old password may keep locking your NetID through attempts to log in with the old password. To resolve this issue, shut off all devices, and wait 10 minutes fo your NetID to unlock.

Compromise

Your NetID will lock if it has been compromised. Contact the ITS Help Desk for help to restore your access.

No longer Yale-affiliated

Your NetID may lock when your Yale affiliation ends. This is controlled by your status in Workday, Banner, or Sponsored Identity systems.

Can I request that a NetID be locked?

Department administrators and other authorized individuals may request that a NetID be locked. Contact the ITS Help Desk or Information Security to request that a NetID be locked or disabled.
