Date

Description

Task

Monday, February 26 Our devices and applications develop vulnerabilities over time. These vulnerabilities are flaws or weaknesses that become wide-open doors for hackers. Unpatched vulnerabilities can lead to cybersecurity incidents or data breaches.

Enroll in auto-updates on your personal computer.

Tuesday, February 27 Most of us use our computers, smartphones, and tablets every day. Different aspects of these devices need to stay up to date. These include:
  • The applications you download to and use on the device
  • The device’s operating system (e.g., Windows, Mac OS, Android, and Apple iOS)
Enroll in auto-updates on your personal phone or tablet.

How the Challenge Works

Each day we’ll ask you to complete a simple task. Most can be done in 10 minutes or less like solving a cyber-themed Wordle, taking a phishing quiz to build awareness or completing a brief survey.

You’ll receive two messages per week to keep the Challenge top of mind.

Each Monday you’ll receive an email about the week’s daily tasks. Each Thursday you’ll receive a reminder.

You’ll be asked to complete a brief weekly survey about your progress.

Don’t forget to submit your surveys as you can be entered to win cybersecurity awareness swag.

At the end of February, we’ll select winners based on weekly checklist completion. Complete all tasks and you can be entered to win one of our newest Yeti bottles – you’ll solidify your status as a Yale Cyber Hero!

Forming Habits

Wondering what habits have to do with cybersecurity awareness?

When you build safe cyber habits you protect Yale and protect your personal information. The more you practice, the easier it is to do!

Here are three secrets to help form habits that stick:

  • Behaviors become more natural when we do them repeatedly.
  • We can form habits more easily when the tasks are simple to complete.
  • Actions that give you a feeling of immediate success encourage you to do more.
