Duplicate NetIDs
What is a duplicate identity?
A duplicate identity is when a member of the Yale community is mistakenly issued a second NetID. Those with a second NetID should address this issue as soon as they are able.
What causes a duplicate identity?
Workday, Banner, and Sponsored Identity Systems create identities for individuals at Yale. A duplicate identity occurs when a new NetID is issued to someone in one of those systems who already has a NetID.
What can I do to prevent creating a duplicate identity?
Check whether the person has been at Yale before.
- Prior employees, faculty, or students should enter their name and date of birth the same as previously listed. Check Banner, Workday, or Sponsored Identity systems to ensure accuracy.
- Prior Sponsored Identities can follow the same procedure above. If returning as a sponsored identity, re-activate the existing record instead of creating a new one.
What should I do if I discover someone has two NetIDs?
Contact the ITS Help Desk. They will start the process to merge information, email, and access rights for that person.
